On the second, our tour begins as scheduled, and our first destination is the iconic Potala Palace. Constructed in the 17th century under the direction of the fifth Dalai Lama, this magnificent palace boasts stunning panoramic views of the entire city. It serves as the private residence of the Dalai Lama, featuring a multitude of grand state rooms and sacred chapels. Following our visit to the Potala Palace, we proceed to the revered Jokhang Temple, originally founded in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo. This temple holds immense significance as the most sacred monastery in Tibet.

Here, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of this mystical land. Explore the bustling Barkhor old quarter, and join pilgrims from across the Tibetan plateau as you engage in a kora around the Jokhang Temple. The term "kora" in Tibetan Buddhism refers to the practice of circumambulating sacred sites, such as temples or stupas, as a way of displaying devotion and accumulating spiritual merit. Pilgrims often walk clockwise around these sites while reciting mantras, prayers, or sacred texts, with the belief that it brings good fortune and blessings to those who undertake the practice.

On the third day, the exploration takes us to two remarkable monasteries in the vicinity of Lhasa: Drepung and Sera. Following breakfast, we embark on our journey to the outskirts of Lhasa to witness the majesty of the Drepung Monastery, the largest of its kind in Tibet, once serving as the residence for a staggering 7,000 monks. Drepung, alongside the monasteries of Ganden and Sera, is one of the three significant centers of Tibetan Buddhist education within the Gelugpa school, also known as the Yellow Hat Sect. Established in the 15th century, Drepung formerly housed the Dalai Lama before the construction of the illustrious Potala Palace.

In the afternoon, you'll be captivated by the renowned debates at the Sera Monastery, where the monks passionately engage in intellectual discourse, challenging each other's comprehension of Buddhist philosophy. This vibrant and intellectually charged experience is truly awe-inspiring and not to be missed during your visit to Tibet.

On the fourth day, our adventure commences as we hit the road, heading westward to reach Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city, before dinnertime. Our journey unfolds with an ascent to the Kampa-la Pass, standing at an elevation of 4,797 meters. Here, you'll be treated to the awe-inspiring sight of Mt. Noijin Kangsang, a towering peak that reaches 7,206 meters, and the surreal turquoise waters of the holy Yamdrok-Tso lake, a sight that will leave you spellbound.

Our path then leads us to the Karo-la Pass at 5,050 meters, where you'll be awestruck by the glacier that majestically embraces the roadside. Our final stop on this day's journey is the charming Gyantse town, home to the Kumbum Stupa within the Pelkor Chode Monastery, celebrated for its exquisite Tibetan art paintings. From the pinnacle of the Kumbum, you'll be treated to a magnificent view of the majestic Gyantse Dzong fortress that watches over the valley, setting the stage for an incredible adventure ahead.

On the fifth day of our Tibetan journey, we followed the course of the Yarlung Tsampo, also known as the Brahmaputra River. This is the most direct route back to Lhasa and a segment of the Friendship Highway. We'll start the day as early as possible by visiting the Tashilhunpo Monastery, a remarkable structure founded in the 15th century by the first Dalai Lama. It currently serves as the seat of the Panchen Lama.

During our journey, we'll make a brief stop to gain insights into the traditional Tibetan art of incense-making. The remainder of the day offers free time in Lhasa, allowing you to explore and enjoy the city at your leisure, rounding off your Tibetan adventure with a sense of fulfilment and discovery.
