Travel to Sky Lake - Lhasa and Lake Namtso Tour 5 Night 6 Days

Your day's journey begins with a visit to the iconic Potala Palace, the winter residence of the Dalai Lama. This magnificent structure was first used in the 7th century by the 33rd great king of Tibet and is steeped in history. Within the Potala Palace, you'll discover priceless treasures, including the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

Following a satisfying lunch, you'll head to the Jokhang Temple, which was founded by the same 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century. Inside the temple, you'll encounter the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you'll witness pilgrims prostrating themselves in devotion to the Jokhang Temple. Surrounding the temple is Barkhor Street, where you can engage in the kora, a sacred circumambulation practice, alongside pilgrims and locals while exploring the vibrant old market.

In addition to these enriching experiences, you'll have the opportunity to savor Tibetan tea at a local tea house and partake in a welcome dinner, further enhancing your immersion in the culture and cuisine of Lhasa, Tibet.

Your morning journey takes you to Dadong Village, often regarded as the most beautiful village in Lhasa. Situated 25 kilometers southwest of Lhasa's downtown area, Dadong Village is a well-preserved ancient Tibetan village nestled within picturesque valleys. Upon your arrival, you'll have the opportunity to explore the Nyimatang Monastery, a sacred site that dates back to the 11th century. A leisurely walk through the village will provide you with insights into the serene rural life in Lhasa. As part of this immersive experience, you'll visit a local Tibetan family and savor a meal prepared by the family.

In the afternoon, your journey continues with a visit to the Sera Monastery, one of the 'great three' Gelug monasteries in Tibet. A highlight of the visit is the Monks' debate, which typically takes place between 3-5 in the afternoon. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to explore the Tibetan religious scripture printing house. Within the monastery, you can admire three intricate sand Mandalas and a colorful Rock Painting of Buddha. This day provides a well-rounded experience, combining the serene countryside with the vibrant monastic life of Lhasa, Tibet.

In the morning, you'll embark on a scenic drive from Lhasa to Lake Namtso, known as one of the four holy lakes of Tibet and the highest saline lake globally. Along the way, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the snow-capped Nyenchen Thanglha Mountain Ranges, as well as the sight of numerous nomads and their tents, where yak and sheep graze abundantly on the lush grasslands (particularly during the summer months). You'll also have the opportunity to appreciate the picturesque view of the Sky-Road Railway set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

As you stand at the renowned Lagenla Pass, perched at an elevation of 5190 meters, you'll be rewarded with a stunning panorama of the sacred Namtso Lake. Subsequently, you'll have the chance to indulge in a leisurely trek around Tashi Dor Island and along the lakeshore. Finally, you'll make your way back to Damxung. (It's worth noting that due to environmental protection efforts, the Lakeshore guesthouses have been closed by the government.) This journey allows you to savor the pristine natural beauty and serene surroundings of Lake Namtso, creating lasting memories of your visit.

After breakfast, your day begins with a visit to Chimelong Nunnery, also known as Phyirmil Lung Nunnery. This serene nunnery provides a peaceful setting to explore various aspects of Buddhist studies in Tibet. While there, you may also catch a glimpse of a sky burial site, a unique Tibetan funeral practice, in the distance, which offers a window into the diverse spiritual customs of the region.

Next, you'll head to Tsurphu Monastery. Here, you'll have the opportunity to delve deeper into the teachings and practices of the 'Black Hats,' associated with the Karma Kagyupa school of Tibetan Buddhism. During the summer months (from June to September), you can even partake in a 'Linka outing,' a Tibetan-style picnic, in the small village situated at the base of the Tsurphu Monastery hill. This day provides a well-rounded immersion into the religious and cultural aspects of Tibetan life. Finally, we will drive back to Lhasa.
