Gaden Nyachu

Garden Nyachu is the anniversary of the Nirvana of Tsongkhapa, the revered founder of the Gelukpa school of Tibetan Buddhism, and is a significant occasion in Tibetan culture. On the 25th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar, Tibetans partake in a tradition of making butter lamp offerings. These lamps are placed at the windows of homes and within monasteries, casting a warm and ethereal glow throughout the community. One of the most beautiful sights during this celebration is the sea of butter lamps adorning the roof of the Jokhang Temple. As evening descends, thousands of Tibetans gather at the temple to receive blessings, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that honors the legacy of Tsongkhapa and his profound contributions to Tibetan Buddhism.
